Hardware Design

LN Systems' experience of embedded systems development is not limited to purely software development but also crosses over into the hardware realm. With a background in the semiconductor industry, we have not only designed many board-level microprocessor systems but had responsibility for full system-on-chip partitioning and architectural design (hardware/software co-design).
The range of microprocessors encompassed by these activities includes MIPS, PowerPC, ARM, 8051, x86 and PIC.

Our experience in hardware and SoC development gives us capabilities for a wide range of hardware/software debugging techniques such as the use of in-circuit emulation, protocol analysers, logic analysers and also development of SoC designs via FPGA prototyping.

Having worked on a wide range of application areas, we have gained detailed knowledge of many hardware interface technologies and standards including USB, Bluetooth, 802.15.4, Ethernet, DVB-T, PC Card and I2C.

As part of a system design we can provide services including:

  • Schematic design to meet application requirements, such as low power battery operation, user interfaces etc.
  • Component selection to meet with mechanical requirements, electrical and environmental requirements.
  • Custom PCB design to bespoke design rules, or inductry-standard rules. PCBs often include manufacturing test and programming aspects.
  • Prototype PCB manufacturing runs, including kitting and assmebly of the PCB. This is often coupled with custom embedded software development using the prototype PCBs.
